One of my favourite times of the year, early autumn gives me many excuses to visit Kew Gardens and photograph the incredible colours as the trees slowly change. Given the wet/cold summer, many of the trees have begun dropping their leaves already which is slightly strange, but hopefully there will be plenty left!
My neighbour has been doing a makeup course and wanted some photos for her portfolio. I quickly volunteered my GG and offered to take the photos myself. This is one of my favourites and makes me smile every time I see it!
I never get tired of the London skyline, whichever way I look I see something of interest or something new I haven't spotted before. Coming out of the London Aquarium on Valentine's Day, we were both blown away by a combination of Parliament and the wintry sunset behind it.
This photo is currently my iPad and MacBook wallpaper and I'm rather proud of it!
Next up on our Valentine's Day out in London, we visited another tourist attraction I have never been to, London Aquarium. Avoiding the large school groups and fellow 'tourists', we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and even managed to get some great photos, despite the terrible lighting conditions.
I have lived in London for over 5 years and I had never climbed St Paul's Cathedral, unbelievable.
My GG was over in London for Valentine's Day and as I had taken the day off work, we decided to do some tourist visits and make the most of the pleasant February weather!
First up was climbing St Paul's, a rather long and steep clamber up endless staircases, ladders and walkways but the views, as evident above, were definitely worth it! (NB it's worth finding one of the plentiful online discount vouchers if you are a paying visitor, it's not just the steps that are steep!).
The climb gave me a whole new perspective on the city I have lived in for the past 5 years!
I've rather fallen behind on my posting on this blog (if anybody reads it!) but above summarises rather well a perfect weekend I spent in Switzerland with my GG and my parents at the end of January. Wonderful weather, good snow, a pretty successful ski lesson for my GG and generally a fantastic break from London/Milan!
There are many places in England I have never been to and should, and many others I have been to many times and still love going back! Stonehenge is one of them...whatever the weather it is always impressive!
2010 has been a successful and enjoyable year for me, although it has not been without its difficulties. The highlights have to include qualifying as a Solicitor for England & Wales, gaining a tremendous amount of experience during a 6-month secondment to Abu Dhabi, and most importantly, my gorgeous girlfriend and I have developed an even stronger relationship (despite the distance sometimes keeping us apart!) and I could not be happier.
After Christmas spent apart (me in Switzerland, girlfriend in Milan), we spent a wonderful 4 days in London which included a fantastic evening at my favourite pub The Weir for New Year's Eve celebrations! She looked wonderful, I was proud and couldn't stop smiling as I made introductions, and we ate, drank and laughed with friends.
It was a fantastic start to 2011 so cheers to another wonderful year!
After a very successful and rewarding 2010, I spent a glorious few days between Christmas and New Year in the mountains of Switzerland, specifically the mountain village of Rosswald in Valais. There had been 15cm of snow the day before we arrived, on top of the 75cm that was already on the ground. This meant digging our way to the chalet's front or back door was a challenge! On the morning of the 30th December we were treated to a lovely sunrise and I knew I had to get outside with my camera, despite the -10C temperatures. This is a chalet a little walk from our own and as you can see, everything was sparkling red, white and blue!
I'm used to lots of snow from my time living in Switzerland but snow in London is different; it's limiting because we just aren't prepared as a city for serious snow falls but also London looks completely different (but still beautiful) in the snow!
I love it.
I'm very lucky to live in an area which is photogenic; whether it is the canal, boats, wildlife, buildings or just the sky, there is always something interesting around me. I went 'snapping' away and took some quick photos and it was only when I converted this to black & white that I realised it worked!
We've had some wonderful winter days recently (before the snow set in) and on one afternoon I took a walk along the canal and found this amazing old barge with a great name! We all need some courage sometimes...
A quick photo from a walk in Kew Gardens that the GG and I took a few weeks ago. Despite a lack of focus, I love this photo! Sadly it was one of the few surviving flowers in this part of the woods...small children with their wellington boots had trampled the rest.
Autumn has to be one of my favourite times of the year...wonderful colours, gorgeous light and those crisp sunny mornings that just beg to be walked around in! Kew Gardens is particularly impressive at this time of year, I've never seen such an array of different colours in one place.
Holidays are now over and I'm back at work. After returning from my 6 months in Abu Dhabi, I had the luxury of 6 weeks off. I travelled through Switzerland, Italy and Portugal before heading back to autumnal London and life as a qualified lawyer! The 'road' in this picture is part of a one-way system in the beautiful fishing village of Burgau in the Algarve, Portugal. It was rather fun watching cars negotiate their way along it with their windows down, only to be covered in water when the tide was in! A car can be seen driving along this road here.
The weather in Switzerland was glorious; Nyon & Geneva look beautiful in the sunshine! This is one of my favourite streets in Nyon, with a wonderful cafe and marketplace.
So I have returned from my six months in Abu Dhabi and am currently enjoying six weeks of holiday before starting back at work as a qualified solicitor! I've had a fabulous two weeks in Switzerland (Nyon & Rosswald) and in Italy (Milan) with some great weather. This is one of my favourite photos I've taken in Nyon.
Sometimes I wonder if life is really worth it… Then I look at your smile and I know it is.
True love is not something that comes everyday. Follow your heart, it knows the right answer.
